Sam Smith has surgery on his vocal cords
Sam Smith has had successful surgery on his vocal cords.
The singer who recently won two Billboard Music Awards and turned 23 yesterday (19th May) posted on Instagram a week ago that he wouldn't be able to speak for three weeks.
Although the prospect of not speaking for three weeks was pretty daunting Sam kept his spirits up posting this 'hospital selfie'.
Sam had the same surgeon who operated on Adele, Cher and Lionel Richie, based in Boston, USA. Dr Steven M. Zeitels who carried out the surgery confirmed that the singer is expected to make a full recovery.
The surgery was needed to to treat unstable blood vessels which could have ruptured making it very difficult to speak, let alone sing.
Last month Sam was forced to cancel a number of gigs across the world and also put the recording of his new album on hold.
