Poor Sam Smith. The singer has been forced to cancel a string of shows after doctors told him he needs an operation on his haemorrhaged vocal chords.

Even worse for the singer, he won’t be able to speak for three weeks following the surgical procedure.

Taking to Instagram to tell fans about his situation, Sam wrote: "Bad news. I have my operation booked for next week, so getting really nervous.

"But by doing this in 8 weeks time I'm gonna be able to sing like never before so it's worth it. I am so sorry to all.

He added: “Dreading the next month tho, I can't speak for THREE WEEKS after the op.”

Sam axed the remaining dates of his Australian tour last month due to a bleed on his vocal chords.

He said at the time: “I have been vocally exhausted for a whole now however last night in Sydney I had a small haemorrhage on my vocal chords.

“The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue.”

Sam’s freshly cancelled dates include shows in Japan, the Philippines, France and Monaco plus his slot at Wildlife Festival in Brighton on 7th June.

Get well soon Sam!
