Love Island fans were left in shock yesterday when it was announced that last year's winners of the show Cara de la Hoyde and Nathan Massey were expecting a baby together, despite announcing their split last month.

Now, dad-to-be Nathan has broken his silence about the news on his social media accounts.

Not mentioning his ex-girlfriend at all, the TOWIE star wrote, 'Yes it's true..I'm going to be a Dad. Its an emotional time for me and I'm overwhelmed by all the support from both my family and friends.' sic

Fans of the reality star were quick to express their love for Nathan and congratulated him on his happy news.

Nathan's ex-girlfriend Cara also delighted fans when she shared a snap of herself to Instagram cradling her tiny baby bump.

Alongside the snap she wrote, 'So glad that I can finally announce to you all that I'm going to be a Mummy 👶🏽💙💗 thankyou for everyone's kind words and support ❤️'.

The news broke that the pair were expecting a child together yesterday when Cara revealed to OK! Magazine she was pregnant.

She said, “It’s a shame and a sad situation. I know a lot of people will think, well you’re going to have a baby together so just stay together – but we’re not going to do that just to look like the perfect couple.”

Cara's friend and fellow Love Island star Olivia Buckland was quick to congratulate her friend with a cute post.

Sharing a snap of the pair enjoying an ice cream, Olivia wrote, 'I love my @Miss_Delahoyde more than ice cream 😂❤ I'm so happy to be godmother to the bundle of beauty growing inside my best friend. ❤'.

The news comes just weeks after the couple revealed they'd split up, almost a year after they met on ITV'2 Love Island.

Cara confirmed the news to her 285k Twitter followers when she wrote, 'Me & nath have split 💔 sometimes love just isn't enough, but what will be will be ❤️ thankyou for everyone's support lately'. sic

Nathan later a shared a snap of himself looking to the floor with the caption, 'The worst feeling in the world is when you know that you both love each other , but still you can't be together ! Me and Cara have split, we've had the summer of our lives together , but sadly come to a end , I wish her the best for the future 💔.'

It hasn't yet been confirmed when baby Massey is due but Cara has made it clear she won't be getting back together with her ex-boyfriend for the sake of the little one, but will make sure he plays a part in their child's life.

She said, 'We're still good friends. He's going to be there for the baby and I'm making him aware of all the midwife appointments and scans, so he's in the loop and so's his mum.'
