Liam Payne recently starred on the front cover of Attitude magazine and gave an interview in which he candidly discussed the band's future, his problems with alcohol and his relationship. However his comments about fans waving rainbow flags seems to have angered One Direction fans.

The controversy came as Liam addressed the fan theory that Harry and Louis 'Larry' are actually lovers. He told the magazine, “I think that (fans bringing rainbow pride flags to the show) was mainly because people think the Louis and Harry thing is real, which is absolutely nuts and drives me insane."

However fans then hit back at the comments, defending their actions as being in support for gay marriage and not being about the fictional romance.

In a series of tweets he responded to the criticism he'd received, stating he thought fans would appreciate honesty.

He then went on to express his grattitude for being able to take part in the shoot.

Attitude magazine have released two covers featuring the 22-year-old.
