Jay-Z insists Tidal is doing 'just fine' despite fierce backlash

Jay-Z has written a series of impassioned tweets defending his streaming service Tidal in the face of a barrage of criticism and reports that signups are dwindling.

Despite drafting in a series of A-List music stars to launch the high fidelity music service last month (including Madonna, Beyoncé, Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Rihanna), Jay-Z’s new business venture has reportedly withered in popularity in recent weeks.

It has also been criticised for being more expensive than its rivals, not offering a free version to users and helping to line the pockets of a string of multi-millionaire musicians.

On top of this, the promotional video for Tidal on YouTube has attracted 15,000 dislikes compared to just over 3,000 likes. Ouch.

In response to the backlash, Jay-Z came back fighting on Twitter last night insisting Tidal is “doing fine” and accused “many big companies” of spending “millions on a smear campaign.”

Ending the majority of his Tweets with the hashtag #TidalFacts, the music mogul also claimed Tidal is for the fans themselves, how he’s “in it for the long haul” and how artists on Tidal will get a bigger cut of revenues.
