Jason Manford apologised for being late to a show by buying a round of drinks for the audience!

The comedian was running 45 minutes late for his sold-out stand-up gig at The Engine Shed in Lincoln on Saturday evening so announced he was buying a drink for each of the 835 audience members.

The funny man’s bill came to a whopping £3,532 and he posted a photo of the receipt to Twitter, joking: "Seemed like good idea to offer free drink cos of lateness! But shoulda added Kopparberg to the banned list of drinks!"

Venue manager Abbi Quinn told the BBC: "It was really good of him. We made the announcement on stage and everyone cheered and then ran to the bar. It was quite entertaining for our bar staff for a few minutes."

Manford was late after he got caught up in traffic travelling from Manchester to Lincoln. He eventually arrived on stage at 8.10pm.

Arguably the most expensive traffic jam ever!
