Harrison Ford injured in serious plane crash
The actor suffered moderate injuries
Harrison Ford has been injured and hospitalised after his vintage plane was forced to crash-land in Los Angeles.
The 72-year-old Star Wars and Indiana Jones actor suffered “moderate” injuries after being forced to crash the two-seater plane he was flying into a Venice golf course.
His son Ben reassured fans of the actor, tweeting from hospital: “Dad is OK, Battered but OK!"
Paramedics found Ford to be “alert and conscious” and suffering “moderate trauma”, an LA fire chief told a press conference at the scene.
Reports have suggested that the actor has suffered multiple gashes to the head and possible fractures.
Ford first reported he was having problems with his plane shortly after take-off from Santa Monica Airport, stating that he was having engine failure with his 1943 Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR and was making an “immediate return”.
Due to problems with the plane he was unable to reach the runway and had to emergency land on the golf course, where he was quickly pulled from the plane by onlookers who feared it could explode.
According to officials, the plane had been flying at around 3,000 feet and hit a tree on the way down.
"There was no explosion or anything,” Jeff Kuprycz who was playing golf told the Associated Press news agency.
!“It just sounded like a car hitting the ground or a tree or something. Like that one little bang, and that was it."
After the crash, Ford was treated by two doctors who happened to be at the golf course and is currently hospitalised.
Later this year, the actor will be reprising his role as Han Solo in the latest addition of the Star Wars franchise, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.
Production had to be delayed last year after he broke his leg on set at Pinewood Studios, filming a scene involving the famous Millennium Falcon spaceship.
