She also hits out at the reaction to the 'privacy violation'

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has slammed the social media reaction to the nude photos leak that hit stars including Jennifer Lawrence.

On Sunday afternoon (31st August) photos of around 20 female stars were leaked in a mass hack, reportedly made possibly following an Apple iCloud leak.

Taking to Twitter last night, Emma, who was not affected by the leak, hit out at not just the ‘privacy violation’ but also the “lack of empathy” shown by many online.

She told her 14million followers: “Even worse than seeing women's privacy violated on social media is reading the accompanying comments that show such a lack of empathy.”

This morning it has emerged that the FBI is now investigating the allegations that the photos were stolen and posted online.

A statement to the Associated Press said they are "aware of the allegations" and are "addressing the matter".

It’s claimed that some of the images were stolen from Apple’s iCloud service, which backs up photos online.

Apple said: "We take user privacy very seriously and are actively investigating this report."

Shortly after the leak on Sunday, Jennifer Lawrence’s spokesperson issued a statement saying: “This is a flagrant violation of privacy.

“The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.”

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead also confirmed that the photos of her were real and slammed the leak.

She wrote on Twitter: "To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves.

"Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this."

Celebrities including Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande have denied the authenticity of the photos published online.
