Ed Sheeran has announced he’s quitting Twitter after becoming fed up with the abuse he experienced on the platform.

Ed told a national newspaper: “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that.”

The 26-year-old singer continued: “One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it”, explaining he spent too much time “trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”

Ed’s Twitter account will remain open but only post automatic posts generated from when he posts something on his Instagram account.

It’s not the first time Ed has gone quiet on social media, till his comeback this year he went quiet on social for a whole year. Posting in December 2015, he said “I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while… I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.”

Ed’s next Instagram post wasn’t till December 2016 when he posted a blue square to tease the release of his 3rd studio album ‘’.

Recently the singer was forced to deny allegations that he’d used a backing track during his Sunday headline slot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
