The star needs surgery in the new year...

Ed Sheeran has been told to cut down his flying after he apparently burst his eardrum when he jumped from a yacht.

It's so bad that he'll have to have surgery on it in the new year.

The singer had been with his friends in Spain, celebrating their 24th birthdays. He told an Australian radio station:

"I have to have an operation in January because I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed it.

"I landed wrong and it burst my eardrum so I have to go and get a graft, which means I'm not allowed to fly for a while, so it's kind of good it means I have to stay at home."

He explained that he didn't realised he'd damaged it until he went back in the water and said it was 'the most painful thing'.

Unfortunately for the star getting home means getting a long flight from New Zealand to the UK when he finishes his 'X' tour on December 12th.
