Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is set to be recognised for her charity work at a star studded event in Paris.

The former Girls Aloud star will be honoured with the Global Gift Philanthropist Award at the charity event which will be hosted by actress, Eva Longoria.

The global award is a recognition for the work the Geordie girl has done through her charity, Cheryl’s Trust. The trust, which was set up in 2015, aims to enhance the support available to young people and help improve the outlook for people living across the UK.

On hearing the news, the 32-year-old said “I am honoured. I’m proud of where I grew up but I’m only too aware of the challenged that young people face. I want to give back and help young people who feel like they’ll never achieve anything reach their dreams and live a happy life.

In order to set the trust up Cheryl teamed up with youth charity, The Prince’s Trust, and helped fund a state-of-the-art centre in Newcastle City Centre to support young disadvantaged people in the North East.

It was set up to help at-risk young people who have faced drug and alcohol abuse, mental health problems, those living in care and homelessness.

Former Boyzone singer, Ronan Keating will also be awarded at the event for the work he has done for cancer charity, Marie Keating Foundation which he set up in memory of his late mother. Ronan will be honoured with the Global Gift Excellence award.

The awards will take place at the Four Season Hotel George V in Paris on May 9th.
