The nation fell in love with her humorous personality when she appeared on Great British Bake Off last year, but winner of the show Nadiya Hussain has now spoke out about the racist and islamophobic abuse she received.

Speaking on Loose Women, 31-year-old Nadiya opened up to the panel about the negative abuse she received on Twitter, stating "There was a lot of negativity on Twitter; I tried really hard not to look at it".

The mum-of-three believes she was the target of abuse due to her Muslim religion and stated her husband was the one who helped her through the tough time. Nadiya told new panelist Vicky Pattison "If anything, I proved to myself I can have the confidence not to care what people think, for me, that’s what came out of it all.”

The star baker claims she was worried about her time on the show and feared she had put her three children in danger.

West Yorkshire Police were informed of the trolls at the time of the incident and have reassured the Bake Off winner.
