The Great British Bake Off pay tribute after former contestant passes away

Sad news today as it's been revealed that former Great British Bake Off contestant Luis Troyano has passed away. Luis, a former graphic designer, has passed away at the age of 48 after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer.
The news was confirmed by Luis' management team, who released a statement, "Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week. A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts."
Show bosses at Bake Off have now paid tribute to Luis, sharing a photo of him on Instagram with the caption, 'We are deeply saddened to hear that Luis Troyano has passed away. It was a huge honour and pleasure to have him in the Bake Off Tent for Series Five. Our condolences and thoughts go out to his friends and family.'
Fans and former contestants alike flocked to the comments section to share their sympathies. Candice Brown wrote, 'Oh my goodness this is just heartbreaking. Luis was a complete gent and we had some great giggles at festivals. Send love and strength to his friends and family.'
Rahul Mandal added, 'Luis, you were such an inspiration, an amazing person and baker!! It is such a devastating news! Sending lots of love to his family and friends!!'.
A fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support has been set up in Luis' name by his partner Louise, with a heartfelt message from Luis himself posted on the site which reads, 'A special thankyou to Macmillan Cancer Support, East Cheshire Hospice and the NHS including Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for trying to save my life and their tireless work to try and eliminate cancer.
'But more importantly a massive thank you to all the amazing professionals who really did try their absolute best for me, showed me absolute compassion and gave me more time than what was seemingly possible. I thank you sincerely.'
