Violence in Middlesbrough leaves several police officers injured
There was a significant response to reports of trouble in the Hemlington area of the city early this morning
Several police officers have been injured during violence in Middlesbrough.
The trouble broke out in the Hemlington area early this morning.
Cleveland Police have confirmed that seven people have been arrested.
A spokesperson for the police force said:
"At around 2.40am, officers responded to fire in the Earls Court Road area. Upon arrival, a police vehicle was damaged, and several officers were injured.
"One officer suffered a serious hand injury and facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
"Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing Grievous Bodily Harm. Three other men and two women have also been arrested in connection with the incident.
"The Fire service and ambulance service also attended the scene.
"Uniformed officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the area today, and anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to speak to the officers or pass information to the Control Room by dialling 101."
