Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has announced he is retiring from boxing.

The 36-year-old lost to Oleksandr Usyk in December and today in a video on Instagram announced his decision to quit boxing.

Fury said in the slightly cryptic video message: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet.

“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this: ‘Dick Turpin wore a mask’.

“God bless everybody, see you on the other side.”

It's not the first time Fury has retired from the sport, he previously announced his retirement after he beat Dillian Whyte in April 2022 but returned to the sport six months later.

Fury had said he had no intention of retiring after a unanimous points defeat to Usyk in December – his second loss to the Ukrainian, who beat the Briton by split decision at the same Riyadh venue the previous May.

Boxing fans had been hoping Fury would finally fight fellow Briton Anthony Joshua this year.
