Violent protests have broken out in Rotherham as anti-immigration demonstrators targeted a hotel in the city.

It comes amid a series of ongoing demonstrations organised by the far-right in the wake of the Southport stabbings on Monday (July 29th).

Those protesting took to the outside of a Holiday Inn Express in the town amid suspicions the hotel was housing migrants.

While this has not been proven, footage has emerged of the protestors smashing their way into the building, before hurling chairs and tables at riot police protecting the hotel.

Other objects including flares, pieces of wood and a bin have been thrown at officers, who have been lined up at the front of the building.

One officer, who was in riot gear, was seen being carried away by colleagues in the midst of the incident.

South Yorkshire Police have been approached for comment on the ongoing disorder.
