Northamptonshire Police have said the body of a woman from Corby has been found in the boot of a car in east London.

Officers investigating the death have launched a murder inquiry after the "suspicious" discovery in Ilford on Wednesday (November 13th).

Speaking on the attack, Superintendent Steve Freeman from Northamptonshire Police said that the woman, who has not been named, was part of a "targeted incident".

The force, however, confirmed that the woman was from Corby in Northamptonshire, and was discovered by a concerned member of the public.

"Fast-track inquiries were made which sadly led to the discovery of a woman's body inside the boot of a vehicle in the Ilford area of London," Freeman said.

"We are treating the death as suspicious and a murder investigation has been launched."

He added that specialist detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit have been on the case, as well as officers from the Metropolitan Police.

"The investigation is ongoing and there will be continued police activity over the weekend in various locations, including Corby and Ilford," Freeman added.

"Although we believe that this was a targeted incident and there is no wider risk to members of the public, extra patrols will be taking place in Corby in the coming days for reassurance purposes."

Anyone who may have any information on the case can get in touch with police by calling 101 and giving their concerns.
