A protester has thrown objects at Reform UK leader Nigel Farage in Barnsley town centre.
Mr Farage said he believes the objects were some wet cement from a work site followed by a coffee cup.
He was on the top of the Reform battle bus when the incident happened.
Mr Farage has just addressed supporters but was interrupted by a crowd of demonstrators.
Police arrested a man a short time later.
Mr Farage said he had been warned by police not to get off the bus.
In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: "We have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of public order offences following disorder in Barnsley Town Centre today (11 June).
"It is believed that the man threw objects from a nearby construction area.
"A suspect was quickly detained and remains in police custody."
