A man has been detained at Manchester Airport after he boarded a flight without the right ticket.

The passenger, who was aged in his 20s, was confirmed by Manchester Airport to have been properly screened through security when he boarded flight EZY2127 bound for Milan.

The incident took place shortly after 7pm on Friday evening (October 4th) as passengers filled Terminal 1 of the airport to fly abroad.

According to reports, the plane had been ready for take off when an argument broke out on the seating arrangement, when the man was accused of being in the wrong seat.

It soon emerged that the man had been on the wrong plane, with police being called to the plane to help the man disembark.

The passenger's luggage was also returned to him, as investigations were launched into how the man had managed to make it onto the plane.

Officers had said that the man had gone through the proper protocol ahead of arriving at the gate, and added that the passenger posed no threat to other people travelling.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they had detained the man and that he currently remained in custody.

In a statement, the force said: "At around 7pm last night (Friday 4 October 2024), we were called to Manchester Airport to reports of a man who had embarked on a flight without the correct documentation.

"On arrival back to the terminal, officers arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of secreting himself for the purpose of being carried in an aircraft without consent and intentionally or recklessly causing public nuisance.

"He remains in police custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing."
