Emergency crews are searching the River Wye after a man fell into the water in Hereford.
Police received a call at just after midnight that the man in his 20's had fallen down the embankment into the river near Victoria Bridge.
A large search and rescue operation is underway, with a co-ordinated response being carried out from West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue, and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
In a statement, the force said: "Police received a call at 00.05am on Saturday 29 July from a man who said his friend, a man in his 20’s, had fallen down the embankment into the river.
"Police search trained officers, along with the police helicopter and blue light colleagues Hereford and Worcester fire and rescue service and West Midlands ambulance service were all immediately deployed to the area to search for the missing man."
Searches are going to continue throughout the day, and Chief Inspector Ross Jones said: "“Our search of the river will carry on this morning, and our officers will continue to support the family as the search continues.
“Our officers are out speaking to the local community in Hereford city centre this morning and we would like to thank them for their support and offers of help.”
