Corrie legend Geoff Hinsliff, who played Don Brennan, dies aged 87
He spent 10 years on the cobbles, and become involved in one of the show's most memorable kidnapping plots
Coronation Street legend Geoff Hinsliff, who played Don Brennan on the soap for 10 years, has died at the age of 87.
He first appeared as the character in 1987, before leaving the show in 1997, as one of it's most memorable villains.
Geoff's character was involved in an attempted murder and kidnap plot when his garage went under.
Don purchased MVB Motors from Mike Bladwin, but began to resent him when the business failed.
He kidnapped Mike's wife and Alma and drove their car into a canal, but both managed to survive.
Don then tried to run over Mike, but crashed his car into a viaduct, before it exploded, killing him off.
Leading tributes, Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt, said: "Geoff was a lovely quiet man, who will be sadly missed by us all".
Geoff was born in Leeds in 1937, and had twice appeared on Coronation Street as different characters, before taking on the role of Don.
