Moult appreciates Motherwell chance

Louis Moult is determined to take his chance with Motherwell after taking the long route back to top-flight football.

Moult began his career with home town club Stoke and made three first-team appearances but, with competition from the likes of Ricardo Fuller, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Turkey international Tuncay and Mamady Sidibe, he was released as a teenager.

Moult had several loan spells with the likes of Bradford, Mansfield and Accrington and eventually made his name in the Conference, scoring 17 goals for Nuneaton two seasons ago and 23 for Wrexham last term.

The 23-year-old said: "I had to drop down after being released by Stoke. I went to Northampton and didn't play a great deal of games so I had to drop down again to the Conference.

"Looking back, it's probably the best thing I've done. I had to rebuild my career. I probably did it the hard way but I think it made me a better person and gave me more experience.

"At Nuneaton I went part-time and I was working too, not very well, but I was trying to paint with my dad, who is a painter and decorator. I didn't do the best of jobs!

"Then I ended up doing a bit of coaching as well. Your attitude towards the game changes straight away.

"You go from being at a Premier League club, where everything is given to you, to part-time where you have to do everything yourself. It definitely makes you appreciate life in general a little bit more.''

Moult has signed a three-year contract at Fir Park after Motherwell paid a transfer fee to Wrexham.

"Hopefully I can stay at the club for a number of years and score as many goals as possible,'' he said.

"I've got to repay the gaffer for believing in me and bringing me to this club.''

Moult will compete with Craig Moore and fellow summer signings David Clarkson and Wes Fletcher for a place up front and manager Ian Baraclough is still trying to re-sign Scott McDonald.

Moult is aiming to prove he can bring different facets to the Motherwell attack.

"There's a bit more to my game than just scoring goals,'' he said.

"I like to link up the play and play with a lot of passion and work hard.

"Hopefully I can mix all that in and become a better player.

"In training the tempo has been really really high and I think that will suit me. I like to do things quick and sharp and hopefully I can adjust straight away.''
