Stuart McCall has signed a short-term contract to take over as Rangers manager. The former Ibrox midfielder will lead the club until the end of the season after the new board acted to rejuvenate the club's promotion hopes. Rangers confirmed McCall had signed his deal just ahead of the former Motherwell boss meeting the media. McCall's appointment was revealed shortly after the club announced the departure of caretaker boss Kenny McDowall. McCall admitted leading Rangers would be a big, big challenge'' but also ahuge honour''. The Ibrox side slipped five points behind second-placed Hibernian in the Scottish Championship this week. The 50-year-old said in his media conference: Hearts have been outstanding and they will win the league, there's no doubt about that."Hibs are on a great run and Falkirk and Queen of the South have shown what good sides they are." It's now our turn. We need to turn this round. There are still enough games to do it and everyone in that dressing room has got to believe that this can still be a successful season."They have had back-to-back promotions - go and make it a third.''
