A Glasgow nail tech is being flown to Denmark to decorate Lauryn Hill’s nails for her upcoming performance on Thursday.

Gemma McLeod, owner of OMG Nail Salon on Regent Street met Hill five years ago when she performed in Glasgow.

The artist has been ranked the greatest female rapper of all time by Billboard and has received eight Grammy awards.

Gemma said: “She was in Glasgow and the hotel she was staying in gave our salon a phone.

“I headed in and did her nails and then a couple weeks later I got another call saying she wanted me to do her nails again.

“Five years later I’m coming to Denmark!”

Gemma could not say too much, but said Hill likes her nails "very colourful and very bling".

She said: “I didn’t even think that I’d be a thought when she needed a nail tech in Europe.

“It’s definitely been an honour and an opportunity I didn’t want to pass up – I’m really looking forward to it.”

No stranger to celebrities, Gemma has also done nails for Leanne of Little Mix and Clean Bandit.

However, she credits her local clients to building her success.

She added: “I’ve been doing nails since I was 16 and went straight into a salon from college.

“I’m now 35 and I can’t be any more thankful to my clients and the chats that we have.

“I just love the creativity that comes from being a nail technician, the different types of people you meet, and no day is the same.

“I really couldn’t imagine doing anything else as a career.”

Gemma will be flying out to Denmark this Wednesday to prepare Hill’s nails for her performance at Heartland festival on Thursday.

It will be Hill’s only performance in Europe this year.
