Hamilton splash out on French defender Xavier Tomas
The Lanarkshire outfit have not paid for a player since landing former goalkeeper Tomas Cerny in 2009
Hamilton have made French defender Xavier Tomas their first summer signing, splashing out a transfer fee for the first time in eight years.
The Lanarkshire outfit have not paid for a player since landing former goalkeeper Tomas Cerny for a reported £180,000 when he arrived from Czech side Sigma Olomouc back in 2009.
But boss Martin Canning has now been allowed to dip into the club coffers to sign centre-back Tomas for an undisclosed fee from Swiss side Lausanne.
The 6ft 6in defender, 31, started his career with Gueugnon and has also had stints in Greece and Israel.
Tomas' move is still subject to international clearance, meaning he will not feature for his new side when they kick-off their Betfred Cup campaign away to Lowland League outfit East Kilbride at K-Park on Saturday.
