Danny Wilson reckons Rangers do not need Michael O'Halloran's help to reclaim their place in the Premiership.

But the Light Blues defender would be glad to see the St Johnstone man become the third new signing to check in at Ibrox this month.

Boss Mark Warburton has seen two offers for the Perth forward turned down but is reportedly closing in on the 25-year-old after preparing a fresh £500,000 offer.

Brentford's Toumani Diagouraga is also, according to reports from England, nearing his own switch north of the border.

However, Wilson - who has already welcomed winger Harry Forrester and goalkeeper Maciej Gostomski into the Gers' dressing room since the transfer window opened - believes the squad is already strong enough to see off Hibs and Falkirk in the race for promotion. He said: "I don't think any more signings are absolutely essential. I think the players we have got have done a really good job. "The boys who come off the bench always add omething when they come on too.

"It's up to the manager whether he brings anybody else in. TIme will tell on that front but if this is us for the rest of the season I'm confident in what we've got.''

O'Halloran was left out of Tommy Wright's Saints line-up for Saturday's 0-0 draw with Hamilton, with the McDiarmid boss admitting his player was not in the right frame of mind to play following a week of transfer speculation.

But Wilson is a fan of the former Bolton wideman.

"Michael is very quick, direct and a very good footballer,'' said the centre-back after scoring the opener in Gers' 4-1 win over Livingston.

"I know him from playing against him in the youth teams.

"He came here in the League Cup, scored and did very well. He's a good player but I don't really know where that is at right now.''

Rangers have now slammed in 19 goals in their last four games after recovering from the slump which blighted their end to 2015.

They were unstoppable for 45 minutes against Livi, with a Martyn Waghorn double either side of another Kenny Miller strike providing further misery for David Hopkin's men following Wilson's early header.

They failed to return after the half-time interval with the same sparkle and allowed Liam Buchanan to trim the deficit.

But Wilson is pleased to see his team hitting form once more.

"It's maybe not as good as we've played all season but the first half is where we want to be,'' said the former Hearts skipper. "We never let Livi have a minute on the ball. Our attacking play and our passing was very good, especially in those snowy conditions.

"So we were really happy with how things went in the first 45 minutes but we know we can be much better than we showed in the second half.

"However, as a team over the last few weeks we've defended much better and looked a lot more solid. That's allowed our attacking players to have a lot more free rein up top. I think that's why we've scored a lot more goals recently.''
