Dalglish Focused On Three Points
Kenny Dalglish believes patience will be key to Scotland's Euro qualifier against Gibraltar later this month. Gordon Strachan will on Monday name his squad for the friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on March 25 and the visit four days later of UEFA's newest member. After four Group D games, Gibraltar have no points, no goals and have conceded 21 times. While the Tartan Army might be expecting a goal-fest at the national stadium on March 29, Scotland's record cap holder, with 102 appearances, was more cautious while praising Scotland for the start to their campaign which sees them sit in third place with seven points from four games. He said Scotland have started fantastically well. They had a fantastic performance against Germany but got beat (2-1) with a really late goal.
It was really easy to collapse after that but they kicked on. Gordon will have them wound up for Gibraltar but the most important thing is to just get the three points.
It doesn't matter if you score 10 or 1, it doesn't count when it comes to the end of the campaign. It is pleasant if you score a few but as long as you get the three points. That is the most important thing. Just win the game.
People will have to be a bit patient during the game but I am sure they (the team) have earned it with their performances in their previous games.'' Dalglish was visiting AFC Claremont in East Kilbride to promote the nomination period of the 2015 Scottish FA grassroots awards, presented by McDonald's, who have the former Celtic manager and captain as their head of Scottish football. He was made aware of one newspaper story linking Liverpool's LA Galaxy-bound captain, Steven Gerrard, with a loan move to Parkhead in 2016. The ex-Liverpool manager and player said: Certainly any football club who had Steven Gerrard playing for them have a tremendous asset.
But whether it would be beneficial to Steven or suitable to Steven, there is only one person to answer that and it's not me. I am sure Steven won't be without selection. He will have plenty to choose from.
I am sure there will be invitations from abroad as well. He is not restricted to this country and if he wants to do it I am sure he will be spoiled for choice.''
