Celtic have confirmed the signing of Denmark defender Erik Sviatchenko on a four-and-a-half year deal from FC Midtjylland.

Sviatchenko was part of the Midtjylland team which qualified for the last 32 of the Europa League, in which they have drawn Manchester United in the next round.

However, the 24-year-old feels the time is right for him to move on, with Ronny Deila's squad still hunting for three domestic trophies.

I am so happy to join Celtic, such a fantastic club and such a huge name in football. This is a club with a wonderful pedigree and a massive support,'' he said on the club's official website.

I will do everything I can to bring success to Celtic. It means so much to me to join a winning club, to join a club that goes for and wins trophies and wants to play in the Champions League.

I know we have a squad of really talented players and I can't wait to get started, team up with them and get to work.''
