Well boss Robinson determined to get top-six charge back on track
Stephen Robinson has told his Motherwell players beat Dundee this weekend and it is game on'' for their top-six ambitions. The Fir Park side dropped out of the top half with last week's defeat at home to Kilmarnock. Steve Clarke's on-form Rugby Park outfit now have a three-point lead over Well with two games in hand. But Robinson is refusing to write off his team's chances with six games to go before the split - and even believes they could still catch fifth-placed Hearts by reigning in the Jambos' six-point advantage.
It's still only three points to Killie - we didn't lose another seven or eight points on that one game,'' stressed the Steelmen boss. We need to get back to winning ways and we've got a great opportunity on Saturday. If we do that it's game on again. Hearts have got a hard game away to Rangers too this weekend and let's not forget they are still in the race.''
There will be teams below us thinking they can still get in there so first and foremost we need to get the points that mean we will stay in this division and then we will start looking back up the way.''
The odds are stacked in Motherwell's favour as they prepare to return to Dens Park on Saturday. They have already beaten Neil McCann's side away from home twice this term, including this month's William Hill Scottish Cup win. But Robinson admits it is hard to know what to expect from the Dark Blues, having seen them respond to last week's defeat to 10-man Kilmarnock by snatching victory against Partick Thistle with two goals in the last five minutes.
We played them quite recently and there wasn't a lot in the game,'' said Robinson.
We took our chances and they didn't. That's the story of football. I watched them away to Killie last week and they are a team that will play good football. They get the ball down and play and have some good individuals that can win them the game. Yeah, they are a little bit unpredictable, but we know it will be a tough game no matter what.''
