Steven Gerrard says Rangers 'answered critics' with Brondby win
The Ibrox side beat the Danes 2-0 to keep their Europa League hopes alive
Steven Gerrard's applauding his Rangers players for hitting back at critics with their 2-0 win over Brondby in the Europa League.
After opening Group A defeats to Lyon and Sparta Prague, the pressure was on the Scottish champions on matchday three.
They responded with goals from Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe to get their first points on the board and move just behind Sparta Prague in the table.
Gerrard says his players knew they had to put in a performance to keep their European hopes alive.
He said: "We put pressure on ourselves.
"If you don't get any points from the first two games and you've got four left then you need to try and get a minimum of nine or ten points.
"It was a must-win tonight - we accepted that in the pre-match buildup.
"A lot of questions get asked about my players, if they can play under pressure in front of crowds, and I thought they put in the perfect performance tonight and answered a lot of critics from the outside.
"It's a good result but there's still tonnes of work to do and big results to get.
"We have to replicate that in two weeks' time. If we can get the win it'll be interesting".
