Steve Clarke remains measured about Scotland's World Cup chances
Steve Clarke says he will remain measured about Scotland's World Cup hopes after making it four points from a possible six to start their qualification group.
The national side kept on a steady course with a solid 2-0 win over Belarus on a surreal evening in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.
After an encouraging 0-0 draw for Steve Clarke's side in their opening qualifier in Group C against Denmark on Friday night, the closed-doors match in the ZTE Arena was in sharp contrast.
Players and management shouts echoed around the ground with loud Scottish celebrations heard when striker Che Adams scored from close range two minutes before the break. Defender Zakhar Volkov put through his own goal in the 65th minute to seal a crucial win for the Scots.
After the game, Clarke said: "It's a good start, but it's only a start. Four points will never qualify anybody for anything.
"We've two big games next month but the effort from the players, the preparation and help I've had from all my staff has been great.
"It's nice to go home with a smile on our face but I'm already thinking about next month.
"I'll take a couple of days to decompress then start watching the matches and start praying that nobody picks up injuries.
"The good thing tonight was we had five players on yellow cards and only Ben Gannon-Doak picked one up so good to go next month."
