Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke admits his team are playing so well he might not need to bother dipping into the January sales.

The Rugby Park outfit are unbeaten so far during December, with four wins and a draw.

Their most recent success on Saturday saw them mount a second-half comeback to shoot down Rangers 2-1, with Kris Boyd downing his former side with two late strikes.

Killie now face Hamilton on Wednesday before facing Hibernian on Saturday in their final game before the winter break.

With two weeks off, Clarke has the chance to reassess his squad and make moves to strengthen if necessary.

But, as things stand, the former West Brom and Reading boss is not expecting to do too much business.

''To be fair to the players who are already here, they've responded really well,'' said Clarke.

''We've got six more points to play for before the transfer window opens, but the way they've been performing takes away the need to do much business.

It's never a great market in January. It's normally a desperate market.

But if something comes up that could improve the squad, like Youssouf Mulumbu did, we would consider it.

With budget constraints, you never know if someone tries to come and take some of your players, so you have to be ready for anything.''

Rangers have already acted to tie down on-loan Cardiff defender Declan John on a permanent three-and-a-half-year deal.

But he admits the shine has been taken off his switch after Graeme Murty's first match as the Ibrox club's full-time boss ended in another defeat.

Gers return to action on Wednesday against Motherwell and John says it is now imperative they respond ahead of next Saturday's trip to Celtic Park.

''It's not the way I wanted to celebrate a new contract,'' said the left-back, who struck Gers' opener just before half-time.

''I was obviously really happy to have the contract sorted, this is where I see myself playing my football.

But obviously that result doesn't really put me in a good mood.

Wednesday's game is now a must-win for us ahead of the Celtic game, we must bounce back.

We will have to put in a good performance at home and obviously we've then got the big game against Celtic.''
