Stephen Robinson looking to reward St Mirren fans with Hampden trip
Stephen Robinson wants to reward St Mirren fans with a trip to Hampden Park when they face Kilmarnock in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final on Friday night.
The Northern Irishman guided Motherwell to the finals of the Premier Sports Cup and Scottish Cup in the 2107/18 season - where they lost to Celtic on both occasions - and is looking to go one step further with the Buddies, knowing a trip to the national stadium for the semi-final awaits the winners in Ayrshire.
St Mirren go into the game with only defeat in 90 minutes in 10 games this season - away to Celtic - and on the back of a 2-1 William Hill Premiership win at Falkirk last week, where they were well backed again by travelling fans whose Tifo impressed the boss.
"You saw the display the fans put on Saturday away at Falkirk and what they've done during the season, the amount of time, money and effort that's spent," said Robinson, who revealed defender Marcus Fraser will see a specialist regarding an ankle injury that keeps him out of the trip to Rugby Park.
"You'd love to reward them.
"I've said to the players, sometimes these opportunities come around once in a career. I've been very lucky that it's come around a few times, but that doesn't often happen.
"It's an opportunity to get to Hampden. So you have to grab these opportunities, you have to be brave and play to your strengths and try to progress.
"It was one of the best days of my career when we beat Rangers and we beat Aberdeen in the two semi-finals at Hampden.
"We want to progress any way possible. It doesn't have to be the best performance in the world, but you have to find a way to win.
"It can bring a whole town together, it can really lift people's spirits.
"People rely on this football club. A lot of times it's their life, and what they cling onto, so we'll be doing everything in our power to make sure we're in that semi-final and we can take a big, big fan base to Hampden.
"We go into it confident after our start to the league season.
"But it's a tough game. I've watched Killie three times this season. It's going to be a tough task, they've got some very, very good players.
"We'll have to have a better performance than last Saturday to progress."
