Stephen Robinson: Charles Dunne will bounce back from injury setback
Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson backed Charles Dunne to be "stronger and fitter'' when he returns from what will be a lengthy injury lay-off.
The Well defender is set to have surgery on a groin problem picked up in the Betfred Cup tie against Stranraer last week which will keep him out for at least four months.
Ahead of the trip to Clyde on Saturday, Robinson claimed Dunne's positive attitude will stand him in good stead during his rehabilitation.
He said: "He is seeing a top specialist in London on Tuesday.
"In terms of the injury, I am no expert so I wouldn't go into detail but it's in the groin area.
"But it looks like it will require surgery and we are probably looking at a four-month injury at best.
"It is disappointing with the form Charles has been in and how good he was last season.
"He is a player very hard to replace at this level with his pace and he was attracting a lot of interest.
"It is important we get him fit and back as quick as we can.
"Charles is the most positive person you could ever meet. He has such a positive outlook and is a joy to work with.
"He is okay. He will come back stronger and fitter, I have no doubt and the interest that was shown in him will come back again as well.''
A draw and penalties defeat at Stranraer last week left Motherwell five points off the top of Group G but after a 2-0 win over Queen of the South in midweek, the Steelmen will now definitely progress if they win at Clyde on Saturday.
Robinson will also be without Ryan Bowman with a leg injury but fellow striker Curtis Main returns from a knock.
He said: "We simply have to win. If only life was that easy.
"It is going to be a tough game. Clyde went to Stranraer and beat them and played well.
"Danny (Lennon) has got them in the style he always gets his teams playing.
"So it will be tough game.'
