Six SPFL games postponed due to significant weather warnings
Last updated 20th Oct 2023
The SPFL have announced six fixtures have been postponed across the leagues due to significant weather warnings across the country.
Discussions have taken place with the governing body, clubs, Police Scotland and relevant authorities after the red weather warnings were issued for Tayside, Aberdeenshire and Angus.
A decision has now been made to cancel some of this weekend's matches in the interests of safety.
St Johnstone's 3pm kick off against Motherwell has been postponed as well as Aberdeen's 6pm match against Dundee.
Arbroath against Raith Rovers in the Championship won't go ahead along with Cove Rangers v Montrose, Elgin City v Forfar Athletic and Stenhousemuir v Peterhead down the divisions.
Calum Beattie, SPFL chief operating officer, said: “We have been in close contact with Police Scotland and our clubs and it’s clear that we continue to face very severe weather, particularly in the North East, in the coming days.
“We never postpone any matches lightly, but our discussions with the emergency services left us in no doubt that this was the correct decision.”
