Six Premiership clubs have invited all SPFL members to a meeting at the end of February to discuss the 'transparency' and 'governance' of the league's governing body.

Rangers, Aberdeen, Motherwell, St Mirren, St Johnstone and Livingston wrote to the SPFL, criticising how they run the game across Scotland and questioning the findings of an independent review.

Chairman Murdo MacLennan previously said the review had given Hampden bosses - who had been under-fire - approval.

The SPFL recently replied to the clubs' letter, claiming it included a number of "factual inaccuracies".

Now the six teams have invited all 42 members to attend a meeting, along with MacLennan and Chief Executive, Neil Doncaster, before the end of the month to further address the issues.

Today's statement reads: "Following the clubs’ letter to the SPFL Chairman and Chief Executive, a response was received from the Chairman on 9 February 2024.

"On consideration of the Chairman’s letter of reply, the clubs believe it to be imperative, in the best interests of transparency and governance, that the Chairman and Chief Executive meet with their shareholders.

"To that end, the clubs have invited the Chairman and Chief Executive to attend a meeting of all member clubs to address the issues around the Independent Governance Review.

"All SPFL member clubs are invited to attend and participate in this meeting, which is to take place at 11:00am on 27 February 2024."
