Shaun Rooney leaves St Mirren by mutual consent
St Mirren defender Shaun Rooney has left the club by mutual consent.
The 28-year old had been suspended by the Paisley side after being charged with the assault of an 18-year old woman in Glasgow city centre last month.
Rooney made 10 appearances for the Buddies after joining on a free transfer in the summer.
A club statement read: "St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Shaun Rooney has left the club by mutual consent.
"The club will make no further comment."
Asked about Rooney's departure, manager Stephen Robinson said in his pre-match press conference: "The situation has been ongoing for four or five weeks now.
"Players deal with it. They're very robust.
"You control the things you can control and we control what happens on the pitch.
"There are a lot of things we can improve on and continue to be good at.
"It's obviously a club decision. It's a mutual agreement between Shaun and the club.
"It's not an ideal situation. We've lost a player that we can't really replace until January.
"That's an issue for us with the issues we've got.".
