Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae believes Sean Dyche is the perfect man to take over the Ibrox hotseat.

The Light Blues are searching for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's successor after the Dutchman was sacked on Monday.

Pressure had been building on van Bronckhorst after a string of poor performances and results left them nine points behind Celtic in the Premiership.

They also finished their Champions League campaign with the worst ever group stage record.

The Ibrox board have already begun their search for his replacement with several names being linked to the job.

Former first team coach Michael Beale is one of the favourites while Kjetil Knutsen, Kevin Muscat and Peter Bosz have all been mentioned.

However, Alex Rae believes the top candidate is ex-Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "For me it would have to be Sean Dyche.

"I think he has done enough to warrant taking over Rangers.

"So Sean Dyche or potentially (Kevin) Muscat who is doing a good job over in Japan.

"It is about getting the new guy in as soon as possible to try and get some of the players performing the way they were before this poor run".
