Sammon looking to rediscover top form after recent success
The striker has three goals from his last two appearances
The Irishman's penalty against Celtic on Tuesday night was his fourth goal in three games for the Jags.
And it has sparked memories of the most prolific spell of the 31-year-old's career.
Sammon was still on the books at Kilmarnock when he hit 18 goals in the first half of the 2010/11 campaign - a run that persuaded Wigan to splash out #600,000 to take him south.
The big frontman admits he has struggled to recapture that deadly form in the years since but hopes with a prolonged run in Alan Archibald's side he can permanently rediscover his scoring touch.
He said, "I'm looking to get back into that zone I was in during my first spell at Kilmarnock where confidence is sky high and I'm so used to getting in on goal and taking opportunities.
"I managed to score 18 goals overall before making the move to Wigan half-way through the season.
"That was definitely the most successful period of my career in terms of scoring goals and enjoying myself.
"Everything just seem to click into place for me. Mixu Paatelainen came in as manager and we were playing total football. We had clever midfielders like Alexi Eremenko and Mehdi Taouil who I struck up a really good link with.
"I used to call Eremenko the quarter-back because he could drop a ball in behind a defence right in front of me.
"It was a joy playing in that team and you're always looking to get back into that frame of mind. That kind of momentum is what I want to get into now.
"We definitely have players here who are capable of providing the same kind of service - it's just about building up those links where we both know what each other is doing.
It's been brilliant the last couple of games getting on the score-sheet and putting in really good performances.
"I just need to built up that run of games that will give me that strength, that power, that fitness to keep doing it week in, week out.''
Having netted a brace in Thistle's William Hill Scottish Cup win over Queen of the South as well as singles against top-flight rivals Ross County and Celtic, Tommy Wright's St Johnstone are the next side in Sammon's scopes.
And he hopes the Perth men will be suffering from ring rust after twice seeing their cup clash with Albion Rovers frozen off.
"They will be champing at the bit to get back playing,'' he said. I wouldn't like to go four or five weeks without a game but we can only focus on our own preparation.
"We've had some good competitive fixtures and we're looking forward to Saturday.'
