Former Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack admitted he was "overwhelmed" after completing his move to Rangers.

The midfielder has signed a three-year deal at Ibrox after his Aberdeen contract expired.

Jack became Pedro Caixinha's second signing following the arrival of 35-year-old Portugal defender Bruno Alves 24 hours earlier.

And Mexico midfielder Carlos Pena is set to become the third after setting off for Glasgow.

Aberdonian Jack, who scored 11 goals in 250 Dons appearances, feels he is joining Rangers at an exciting time and is relishing the prospect of experiencing the Ibrox atmosphere as a home player.

Jack told his new club's official website: "I've had a lot of experiences as a football player and to captain Aberdeen Football Club was a huge honour.

"I'm thankful to Aberdeen for that and to Derek McInnes but I just felt it was time for a fresh challenge and it's one at Rangers that I'm really looking forward to.

"From what I've heard the club are making a few signings and bringing in a good calibre of player, so it's exciting times and I know there are really good players already here as well.

"I'm just overwhelmed at the minute but I'm looking forward to the challenge."

The 25-year-old added: "I've mentioned before to friends and family that the 2-1 game when Rangers beat Aberdeen here, the atmosphere that I experienced that day was probably the best I have experienced in my career.

"Obviously I was on the losing side that day and it was a difficult one to take, but it's atmospheres like that, and the European nights under the lights, you want to play in.

"I'm really looking forward to it. It's a surreal moment but I'm delighted to be here and it's an honour to be part of this club."

Rangers are due to start pre-season training on Monday but Jack will be given some extra time off following his appearance in Saturday's William Hill Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic, for which he ceded the captaincy after it became clear he was moving to Ibrox.

Jack said: "It was a long season. We had the European qualifiers at the start so I think it was a 50-week season we had, training for 50 weeks and playing.

"But I've got a couple of weeks off now, I'm getting married on June 9 so I've got a lot to look forward to in the summer, knowing in the back of my mind that I'm coming back to a fresh challenge with Rangers with new team-mates and a new manager."

Jack is set to occupy the holding role which Rangers did not have natural defensive cover for last season, except for during Joey Barton's brief and ill-fated spell.

Caixinha said: "Ryan is one player who, for the last three seasons and from the age of 23, has been the captain of Aberdeen and that tells me a lot about the character, the personality and the maturity he has as well as the talent.

"I also believe that we identified in him something that we need in our midfield, which is leadership and understanding the game in terms of being the balance player who builds from the back, who switches the play, who releases the full-backs and allows all the offensive players to go up the park with more freedom."

Pena is a more attacking midfielder who has scored seven goals in 19 internationals. The 27-year-old joined Chivas from Leon for a reported fee of about ÂŁ7million in December 2015 but he was loaned back to his former club a year later.

He told reporters at the airport he was on his way to fulfilling his dream of playing in Europe and thanked former Santos Laguna boss Caixinha for making it possible.
