Rangers take on Hibs in pick of Petrofac Training Cup ties

Rangers have been drawn against relegated Hibernian in the first round of the newly-titled Petrofac Training Cup.

Ally McCoist's team have been given a home draw against their Scottish Championship rivals as they look to win the Challenge Cup competition at the third time of asking after losing to Raith Rovers in last season's final, and Queen of the South the previous season.

New Hibs boss Alan Stubbs said after the Easter Road ceremony: It's a great draw. No matter which round of a cup you are competing in, you are going to have to beat the good teams to get to where you want to be.

So Rangers at Ibrox is a mouth-watering draw for the first round and I'm excited about it, I really am.

Raith, who beat Rangers in extra-time to win the then-named Ramsdens Cup, begin their defence against Fife rivals Dunfermline at East End Park.

Hearts make their debut in the competition at home to Annan.

Most of the games will take place on July 26 but Rangers and Hibs need to find an alternative date as Ibrox is hosting the Commonwealth Games rugby sevens event that weekend.
