Rangers lack any direction, says Kris Boyd
The former Gers striker has been baffled by recent decisions at the club
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes his old club are lacking any kind of direction after their 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Celtic on Sunday.
The Hoops clinched their seventh-successive Premiership title in stunning style with an Odsonne Edouard double and goals from Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Callum McGregor.
The devastating defeat for the Gers came during more managerial uncertainty as former Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard, currently a youth coach at Anfield, emerged last week as the front runner to take over from Graeme Murty.
The 34-year-old striker, now plying his trade with Kilmarnock while also working as a pundit, was speaking at the Kris Boyd Charity inaugural golf day at Trump Turnberry, and expressed bafflement at the goings on at his old club.
He said: "Six months ago you are trying to get Derek McInnes, tried and tested in Scotland, knows the game inside out, and six months later you are away down the road trying to get a youth coach.
"No disrespect to Steven Gerrard, but at this moment in time that's what he is.
"I don't think there is a clear direction or plan of where the club wants to go.
"It seems as if they are trying to grab everything to see if what you grab works rather than having a plan, a structure.
"I still don't know what (director of football) Mark Allen is doing. It would be interesting to see what's gone on in there with him.
"I think the Rangers fans would want to know exactly what's going on.
"If you are the director of football and you try to bring in a manager who has been over the course and distance, knows exactly what is going on in Scotland, then all of a sudden you are going to Liverpool to take their youth coach, it doesn't add up.
"There needs to be a plan and direction and at this moment in time I don't think anybody knows.''
Boyd also expressed disappointment that no one from Rangers emerged to face the media following their derby drubbing.
He said: "If you come out and are crystal clear and give your thoughts on the game and what went on round about it, that's what people can take from it.
"If you don't say anything, anybody can write what they want and say what they want.
"It was disappointing but it doesn't come as a surprise anymore.''
Boyd is looking to add to his 23 goals this seasons when he returns to Ibrox with Killie on Saturday.
He said: "I have not really been one for setting targets because I think you can only disappoint yourself.
"As a striker, you want to score as many as you can so I will go to Ibrox on Saturday looking to score.'
