Rangers 'grant' Aston Villa permission to speak to Steven Gerrard

Rangers have granted Aston Villa permission to talk to Steven Gerrard, according to reports.

The Ibrox boss looks to be moving closer to a switch to the English Premier League and confirmation could come within the next 48 hours.

Gerrard has become the favourite to take over at Villa Park after Dean Smith was sacked at on Sunday.

The Telegraph are now reporting Rangers have cleared the way for their manager to hold talks with Aston Villa.

Discussions are also said to be underway to take Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milsom south of the border as well.

The fee for the move is suggested to be around the £3million mark.

Villa sit 16th in the English top flight after five successive defeats and face Brighton at home in 10 days.
