Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst in favour of VAR
The Ibrox manager says he would like to see VAR introduced in Scotland
Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst says he would like to see VAR introduced to Scottish football.
The Dutchman says it would be a benefit to everybody if the the use of video assistance is brought in to help referees in the top flight in Scotland.
Clubs are set to vote on the matter with the Scottish FA and SPFL having held talks about bringing it in.
Van Bronckhorst was asked his thoughts on VAR and says it's an important addition to the game.
He said: "Yes, I’m for VAR.
"You can have situations in games where it is very difficult for the ref to see and to make decisions, so VAR is there to help the ref which is very important.
"I’m from Holland, I think VAR came from there and it’s fair to have the VAR for both sides really so I’m for VAR next season".
Van Bronckhorst was also quizzed on whether he felt Scotland would benefit from having full time referees.
He said: "The last time I played here was 2001, so I knew the refs then.
"Of course, now coming in for a couple of games, I know the officials in Scotland aren’t full time.
"If you are a full-time referee or whatever job you have you can fully concentrate on your job.
"I think sometimes it’s not easy for refs because they have their normal jobs and have to officiate games so in an ideal world, of course, and if you speak to the refs as well they would feel much better if they could have it as their full-time job because they can do what they love.
"For me it’s always better to have full-time officials."
