Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says lessons must be learned after he condemned the content of the SFWA award ceremony after-dinner speech that caused several women to leave in protest.
The Scottish Footballer Writers Association apologised yesterday to "anyone offended or upset" by the speech and promised to review and improve the format of the annual gala dinner.
Postecoglou was in attendance to pick up his Manager of the Year award and said the moment must be used to be better: "The content was not appropriate, to be honest I don't know if its appropriate at anything.
"You can turn it into a controversy but I don't think people learn anything from that.
"Make it a teaching moment to be better for people who have the responsibility of organising those nights.
"It's an opportunity to do things a lot better and understand you have to take into account peoples beliefs and feelings.
"I think they've approached it the right way by apologising."
The controversy centred around jokes made by Bill Copeland, a former lawyer who works on the after-dinner circuit.
TV presenter Eilidh Barbour was amongst the people to walk out, tweeting that she had "never felt so unwelcome in the industry".
