Partick Thistle dedicate Morton victory to late owner Colin Weir
Ian McCall dedicated Partick Thistle's Ladbrokes Championship win over Morton to late owner Colin Weir.
The winner of one of the UK's biggest EuroMillions jackpots died last week following a short illness, leaving the Firhill club in mourning.
Weir and wife Chris, from Largs in North Ayrshire, scooped a #161million prize in 2011 and soon after ploughed a substantial sum into the Jags' youth academy.
And as recently as last month, the 71-year-old again invested in the club he followed all his life as he bought a majority shareholding as part of a deal that wiped out its debt and set up plans to pass over ownership to the Maryhill support.
A minute's applause was held before Thistle's 2-1 Cappielow win, with the Jags players wearing black armbands as they claimed a valuable three points thanks to goals from Alex Jones and Thomas O'Ware either side of a Kyle Jacobs penalty for the Ton.
McCall's team now leapfrog Morton into eighth but there was more significance to the result than league placings for McCall.
He told the club's website: I mentioned Colin in the team talk and that game was for him and all he's done for our football club in a number of facets over a number of years.
It's a great three points and we're delighted to be able to dedicate them to him.
Look, that's nine games now with only two defeats, but we can't get ahead of ourselves. We're still very close to those bottom two teams and we've now got a big game against Alloa on January 4, so we'll now look forward to that game and see where we are after that.''
Inverness have fallen 14 points behind leaders Dundee United after a shock 1-0 home defeat by Arbroath.
John Robertson's team were hoping to take advantage of United's 1-1 draw with city rivals Dundee on Friday night but were left stunned by Luke Donnelly's winner.
Basement boys Alloa were handed a huge survival boost as they claimed a 3-1 win over play-off chasing Dunfermline at East End Park.
Kevin Nisbet headed his 20th goal of the season to put the Pars ahead but the Wasps stung back through Adam Brown, Kevin O'Hara and Iain Flannigan to draw within two points of second-bottom Morton.
Queen of the South gave their own play-off ambitions a shot in the arm with a controversial win over fourth-placed Ayr, who they now trail by just three points.
Callum Semple put Queens ahead at Somerset Park before Stephen Dobbie slotted home a penalty.
But the hosts responded with an Aaron Muirhead spot-kick and thought they had equalised late on, only for the officials to rule Doonhamers defender Kevin Holt had cleared the effort off his line.
