Ross Wilson could be closing in on a Rangers exit to English Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

The Athletic are reporting that the Ibrox sporting director is their preferred candidate to replace Filippo Giraldi.

Giraldi was sacked by the City Ground side today with suggestions they have already made contact over appointing Wilson as his successor.

A statement read: "Nottingham Forest’s Sporting Director, Filippo Giraldi, has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

"He leaves the Club amicably with our best wishes.

"Filippo would like to place on record his thanks to the Club and wishes Nottingham Forest best of luck for the future."

Wilson joined Rangers in October 2019 and has previously had spells down south with Watford, Huddersfield Town and Southampton.

The 39-year old has faced criticism from supporters in recent times with protests made against him and managing director Stewart Robertson at matches.
