Nikola Katic leaves Rangers for FC Zurich

Nikola Katic has left Rangers to join FC Zurich on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year old moved to Ibrox from Slaven Belupo in 2018 and went on to score six goals in 59 appearanes.

Katic fell out of favour in 2020 and was loaned to Hadjuk Split for the 2020/21 season.

The Croatian cap was unable to work his way into Giovanni van Bronckhorst's plans and has now sealed a move to Switzerland as he looks to kickstart his career.

His most memorable moment in a Rangers shirt was scoring the winning goal against Celtic in an Old Firm clash in December 2019.

A Rangers statement read: "Rangers can today confirm the departure of Nikola Katic to FC Zürich on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

"The centre-half initially joined the club in the summer of 2018 before extending his contract in 2019.

"Defender Katic immediately bought into the club since signing, he went on to make 59 appearances in blue and scored six goals across the Scottish Premiership, Europa League, and League Cup including the last-minute winner at Parkhead in 2019.

"Niko leaves a Ranger with everyone at Ibrox wishing him well for the next move in his career."

Stephen Kelly is also likely to leave the club ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

The 22-year old has spent time on loan at Ayr United, Ross County and Salford City - but now looks to be heading out the door on a permanent basis.
