The 22-year-old midfielder is the eighth signing of the summer window for new manager Steven Gerrard, subject to international clearance.

Coulibaly could yet be added to Rangers' Europa League squad ahead of their qualifying opener against Macedonian side Shkupi on Thursday night, with the deadline for addition at midnight on Wednesday.

The Mali international has 10 caps for his country and made 22 appearances for Angers in his first campaign at the club following a move from Bastia.

He is the eighth player through the door following the likes of Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and Ovie Ejaria, while Roma striker Umar Sadiq is also expected to join shortly.

Like many of the others, Coulibaly is excited to play under Gerrard but admitted he was not sure if it was a joke or not.

He told Rangers TV: "It was not easy but when my agent said Gerrard is the head coach, I said okay no problem and was happy to come in.

"He can help me to develop. When they asked me if I want to join this team or not, I said yes but I thought it might not really be Gerrard!'
