Scotland defender Nathan Patterson faces several weeks out after picking up an injury against Ukraine at Hampden last week.

The 20-year old was forced off during the 3-0 Nations League win and was unable to feature in the national side's following two games.

Steve Clarke's team went on to beat Ireland 2-1 and seal promotion to the top tier of the Nations League with a 0-0 draw away to Ukraine in Poland on Tuesday.

Patterson has returned to club side Everton where they have discovered the extent of his injury.

The Premier League outfit say an ankle issue will keep the full-back out of action for around four to five weeks.

An update on Everton's official wesbite said: "Everton defender Nathan Patterson is expected to be out for around four to five weeks with an ankle injury.

"The 20-year-old Blues right-back was forced off while on international duty during Scotland’s Nations League win over Ukraine at Hampden Park last Wednesday.

"Following a consultation with a specialist in London, Patterson will now undergo treatment under the care of Everton’s medical team at Finch Farm."
